Life is tough, and unfortunately there’s no manual that comes with. Luckily, there are people that can help you through these events, no matter how intimidating the situation can be. These are the people worth having in your lives—because they bring positivity. Since this injury has highlighted the NEED for people in my life, and since people are a big part of our lives even without a spinal cord injury, I have found it is crucial that you choose positive company and here are the 7 reasons I've found why.

With positivity comes authenticity

Those with a positive outlook on life will look out for your wellbeing instead of trying to destroy it. They are looking to make a friend out of you- not an enemy. They inspire you to grow, and thrive. I have had a hefty dose of the negative side of this with many people taking advantage of my vulnerable position, jealousy, and other things we don't need to get in to. let's keep this positive, right?

What I'm getting at is: TRUST ME. Find authentic, positive people to chill with. Don't go trying to learn this one the hard way, like I did!

A support system

Having a positive person in your life brings comfort. If you ever need a shoulder to cry on, you’ll know who to turn to. Instead of keeping you down in the dumps they will try to uplift you, even if it’s just lending an ear or lightening up the mood a bit. I chose to have the closest person in my life to be this beacon of comfort, my Wife. I highly recommend this strategy. But if you aren't looking for that kind of commitment, or any other reason - Surround yourself with these types whatever way you can.

Good vibes only

With these favorable people in your lives, good times are easier to have, even if it’s just wanting to unwind for five minutes, because guess what? These type of people focus on trying to keep the mood flowing positively and I don't know about you, but being in a rad flow feels nice to me...

Drama free zone

No one likes drama and straight up, I have enough drama in this #wheellife. Those who practice positivity certainly don’t have the time or energy for it.

If you want to avoid these negative incidents then it’s best you surround yourself with these type of people. If you find yourself in a Drama zone (sometimes it's unavoidable...) do your best to not engage. Try to steer negative conversations in a different direction. Remember that old saying "Misery loves company"? Well, it's true. As soon as you start avoiding the drama, steering the convo to positive - watch how fast these people fall away from you.

Being around this sort of company will motivate you to stay clear of downward spirals and hopefully persuade you to make good and healthy decisions in life.

Life is all about moving forward and it’s imperative to be around those who help us navigate towards success. No matter how successful, unsuccessful, able, or challenged - we need each other! We all get knocked down. Life is about HOW you get up and WHO helped you do it. (Thank you to all my homies who have assisted me, you know who you are)

They have your best interests at heart

Positive people are genuine, more so because they don’t only care about themselves, but they care about you as well.

It is important to them, as much as it is important to yourself, that you are feeling good about and/or that your goals are met. Being aware of people who do and don't have your best interest at heart is important. Sometimes those who don't, are people you can't necessarily cut out of your life. What do you do with that? Create zones.

For example: Keep positive, genuine people in the Daily Zone (Close). Keep the energy suckers, sabotagers in the facebook/IG zone (only in the virtual). You can create your own zones, but you pick up what I'm throwin' down, right?

We tend to absorb the actions of those we spend a lot of time with. It is no doubt that by constantly being around these impactful and bright souls, you too will become a ray of sunshine!

#Staypositive, keep your tribe positive, and #believe that it's all possible
